On Saturday the 30th October 2004, Gerrod and Kristy got married. It was a day to remember, with Kristy bouncing away all day long and Gerrod tearing up as his beautiful bride walked down the aisle.
The day started off well for me, I woke up nice and early at 6am and proceeded to muck around the house until Gerrod woke up. After which I packed up all my gear and headed down to his house where we would just hang and start to get ready for the big event. In preperation for the Thomas’s trip over to NY, Gerrod and I made a pitstop at the Cotton’s house where Gerrod signed his car over to Leanne. It was a sad to see the Mojo Mobile leave Gerrod’s ownership. We then picked up the Harvey’s cars and drove into the Brisbane Sheraton Hotel where Gerrod and Kristy were staying the evening.
We met up with the best man, brother Jason, and proceeded to eat some yummy lunch (club sandwich) and drink a Carona as we got dressed and did our hair and makeup. At this point, I gave Gerrod a little gift as a keepsake for this special day. I gave him some “pig” cufflinks – which is were a reference to a wedding ceremony in an episode of “The Simpsons”. Gerrod seemed to like them and wore them for the rest of the day.
By this stage it was time to head down to the church, so we jumped in a car and made our way down. At the church we were greeted by some early arriving guests and Mr and Mrs Thomas. A few photos of the groom’s party were taken outside by Marina (the professional photographer) before we made our way into the church. This is where we started getting a little nervous. Hanging around on stage while the guests arrived is a little nerve racking. They all just look at you and smile and take photos and stuff. It’s really weird.
I was totally awe struck when my special girl Michelle walked in. She looked hot, hot, hot. I am so lucky.
15 minutes late, the Bridal party finally arrived and the ceremony began. The wedding vows were short and sweet, and were then followed with a sermon emphasizing the importance of “Two being better than one”. While this was a great message for the wedding couple, it was noted that some of the single people were feeling a little bit slighted. The ceremony ended quickly and bagpipes were played seeing the newly wed couple out of the church. Gerrod and Kristy met with the guests and some photos were taken with family and friends before the wedding party was rushed into a waiting Limo ready to be whisked away for the bridal party photographs.
The photographs were taken down on the boardwalk near Custom’s house and at various places at Southbank. Kristy and Gerrod were so happy and they couldn’t stop smiling the whole time. Hopefully all the professional photos turn out really good (even though I am in them).
6pm rolls around quickly and it’s time for the reception. It was held at the River Room at Southbank. A gorgeous setup with 10 tables of guests, a raised table for the wedding party and a view that overlooks the Brisbane river. The guests were all seated first and then the wedding party was announced. Jo and I were introduced first so we made our way to the table where I got Jo’s chair for her and seated her before making my way to my chair. Jason and Melissa were introduced next, however Jason didn’t get Melissa’s chair and the crowd boo’ed him. It was quite funny as Jason didn’t know why he was being boo’ed. The finally Gerrod and Kristy were introduced and a roudy applause erupted as Gerrod got Kristy’s chair for her.
A buffet dinner was served and the guests all mingled and chatted with everyone. Surprisingly the buffet dinner worked really well. It was tasty, fresh and well organized. Not long after dinner was served and eaten the speeches began.
They were truly magnificent. I enjoyed every speech as they were short, clever and witty. It also helped that David the M.C. did a magnificent job. Somehow managing to entertain us and tie every speech together in a clever way.
After being deeply touched by the wedding speeches dessert was served. Then the cake was cut and the dancing began. The DJ for the evening was given specific instructions by Gerrod and Kristy before the event that no cliche music was to be played. However, I think he thought he knew best and proceeded to play some of the corniest, oldest, crappy music. Luckily it didn’t affect the mood of the evening and everyone had a great time.
Gerrod and Kristy then said thank you and goodbye to everyone. The evening was over. But what an evening. A truly memorable event. I wish Gerrod and Kristy all the best for their lovely future together.
I would love it if you could leave comments against this article, describing your experience of the day. It would be great to hear how everyone else enjoyed this wonder event.
Just wanted to say thanks for the update on your blog! It was so lovely to read about G&K’s wedding day and see the pictures from Jason’s weblink. I’ve posted a congratulations on gerrod.com, but I know they’re on their honeymoon.
Everyone just looked beautiful. I hope they had a wonderful and truly special day.
Thanks for reminding me Jaimee. You can check out some photos of the wedding party here.
Well, our experience of the day… ? We had quite a nice time, actually! Glad those champs invited us along. And boy, how good did that bridal party look (especially the saucy lookin’ bride!)
:-D
From the other side of the world, thinking ahead 9 hours, I kept saying, "They’re getting married in a few hours" and "Oh they’re married now!"
Thank you so much for a detailed description of the day. Those wedding vowels must have been great!
A huge congrats to the lovely couple and good to see they’re coming round to this side of the world!
i think my first post got bumped.
ben – i wouldve given you a speech slot – how about you post one now in lieu of on the night – you may toast achmed the DJ
I would like to propose a toast to Achmed the DJ for providing a bevy of classic hits this evening.
He is a man a true talent as he has been able to discern between the cliched and more delectable songs of our generation. Not once tonight has he played a song that didn’t catch our attention.
To Achmed for listening to his client’s and provided an excellently balanced playlist.
better get that toast in quick – I understand G is busy spening baht with a thai goon who will be paying achmed a little visit and introducing him to some love shack thai style
I had an excellent time, Gerrod gave a great speech, Jason learnt some etiquette, food was great – though I had to pay Gerrod $50 to put us near the food table..
There was one little incident that I thought I would share. Sharing a table with a couple of close medical friends (Al and Suzy) I thought I would get their profesional opinion on a medical condition. So I picked up a large bunch of purple grapes, stood up, attached it to my rectum and said "Man check out these piles!"…when I turned around I noticed that Rod (Gerrod’s dad) was standing behind me, totally gob smacked…i guess he hadnt seen a really bad case before…
I had a great time, and congrats to Gerrod and Kristy, very special people who deserve each other.
