Decadence – The Australian Way

Filed under: At home in Australia| Happenings

Making the most of our limited time left in Australia, Michelle and I thought it best to spend over 10 hours yesterday on the couch in front of the T.V watching the tennis.

It wasn’t all lazing though, we did have our friends Micah and Rachi over for an indoor ‘bbq’ lunch. We ate copious amounts of food as we watched Alicia Molik get beaten by Davenport. Team RaM departed for home not long after and their place was filled by our friend Katie who dropped around.

More lazing, beer, and decadence was enjoyed by all. A true Australian day of laziness. I’m glad Lleyton didn’t get the lazy message though and managed to pull out a quarter final win to take him to the semi’s against Andy Roddick.

Hanging ten

ben-surfingOne of my goals for 2005 was to try my hand at surfing. Yesterday, Michelle and I went down to the Gold Coast Spit with Cathy and Grant to do just that.

We had a picnic first and then enjoyed a gentle swim in the most beautiful clear surf I’ve ever seen before Grant took me out for my first surfing lesson.

Grant, a seasoned professional, makes it look easy and taught me the necessary basics to get me up on my feet surfing the wave into the beach on my first attempt. I was so stoked to get up and riding first time. I then proceeded to ride the next 2 out of 3 waves I tried. It was thoroughly enjoyable and I am definitely interested in doing some more.

A big thanks to Cathy and Grant for giving up their time yesterday. We had a great day.

Drinks with some old workmates

Filed under: At home in Australia| Happenings

On Friday night we headed out to The Regatta at Toowong for drinks with some of my old workmates.

It was a super balmy afternoon that only a lightening storm could help try and cool. It was great drinking a few beers and watching lightening crack over cane fields … oh .. I mean …the Brisbane River.

A few of us managed to make it to the unruly hour of 8:30pm and decided to head off to Hogs Breath Cafe for a feast of burgers. They were so yummy.
