I’ve been in denial for the last month or so but I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I now snore.
My snoring habit began after I returned from my Scotland trip and started work. At this time, I got a good case of the sniffles and have not been able to recover since. My nose is constantly blocked up. Day in, day out.
I think I now sleep with my mouth open, and the result of breathing half through my nose and half through my mouth, is what Michelle affectionately calls the ‘chainsaw’.
Snoring, means that Michelle doesn’t sleep well, which in turn means that I don’t sleep well. I’m determined to find a solution to my problem.
Has anyone got any ideas?
PS> I know the title says ‘My first bad habit…’, that’s actually a bit misleading. There’s also the almost daily consumption of alcohol too. However, that’s the culture in London so whether it’s a bad habit or not is questionable.
Joe and I suggest sleeping on your side, Joe only snores when he is on his back. Other than that get Michelle to hit you everytime you start..
Thanks for the postcard!!
I second what Michalie says, BP. You have to try to reprogram yourself to never sleep on yor back. For the last week, I have also been placing a band-aid across my mouth from top to bottom in the hope that it will prevent me breathing through my mouth. Some encouraging signs so far.

If your nose is blocked then you’re a gonner. A really hot shower (think: steam) should help loosen up the crap in your nose/lungs. If your gym has a steam room, use that!
Also, alcohol is a huge contributor to snoring, so you could always give that up… ;-)
I second the ‘daily consumption of alcohol’ culture! Hence why I’m detoxing this week.
My liver is thanking me profusely.:)
Daily consumption of alcohol is a bad habit?
You poor thing Michelle, You could always kick ben out of the bed!!
You could always get Michelle some earplugs?!??!
K-T you’re off my blog list from now on :)
Telling Michelle to kick me out of bed is not very nice.
Michelle picked up some ear plugs yesterday. She just has to get used to wearing them now.
We don’t have band-aids over here. If we use that word we get a blank look. I think they call it plaster or something.
Ok sorry Ben, Try this
Cut a lemon and orange into half and squeeze into a cup. Fill with hot water. Do not add sugar.
It should work will any luck
Maybe this should be your second bad habit, the first is that you don’t update often enough… especially after the weekend that you probably had!! :-P
Buy a large sleeping bag and roll out flat on the couch, or any other semi-comfortable area. Have a few beers, kindly point out the sleeping bag to Michelle and go to bed. Lie on your back and get some well deserved rest.
If in the morning you find Michelle on the couch you will feel satisfied in knowing that you both had a good night sleep.
Ok, try Vicks vaporub. If that does not work then try duct tape.
Would you believe it but my snoring was definitely linked to living in London? I’ve been back in Brisbane for two years now and rarely snore now.
