Our friends Karl and Caroline arrived in London last week.
It was great catching up with them last week for dinner. We had a fantastic evening and hope that we didn’t scare them with any of our London tales.
Karl and Caroline are the first of many new friends coming over in the next couple of months. Next to arrive is Pat, followed closely by Nathan and then another ex-IDT employee, Luke and his wife.
Anyone need a bath?

This weekend Michelle and I decided to hire a car and cruise around the southwest of England. Our destination, Bath.
We decided to be smart with our car hire and pick up our Ford Fiesta from Heathrow airport. This solved two problems associated with hiring a car in the city – a) we wouldn’t have to navigate our way out of the mayhem that is London city and b) we could drop our car off at anytime as it’s open 24 hours at Heathrow.
We popped straight onto the M4 motorway and headed down to the beautiful city of Bath. On the way we passed the towns of Slough and Swindon – the two offices featured in the tv show – The Office. It was great seeing the roadside signs that were featured in the tv show. When we arrived in Bath I was suprised to find it much bigger than I had anticipated and more atmospheric and pretty than I ever imagined.

We found our lovely B&B, dropped the car off and headed straight into the heart of the city. Being a tourist city and a Saturday it was crawling with people. We fought our way through the crowds, picked up some free yogurt handouts, and made our way to the Pulteney Bridge for a bite to eat while overlooking some wonderful waterfalls (thanks Dad for the suggestion).
After lunch we embarked on a self-guided walking tour. The first stop is the Roman baths that Bath is famous for. It was an informative tour (too informative – ie. a little boring) but seeing the actual baths and learning about them was fascinating. After the baths our little internet walking guide took us past the Royal Crescent and the circus before finishing us up at a costume museum. It was great seeing original clothes from over 400 years ago.

Ben enjoys a well-deserved GS.

Michelle and I walked through the Victoria Gardens to get to the Royal Crescent.

We enjoyed a lovely Indian meal for dinner and a good nights sleep in our cosy B&B room. The next morning we slept in before consuming a must-do English breakfast, then it was in the car to go do some exploring. In the space of a day we explored, Bristol, Portishead, and Cheddar.
I wasn’t expecting great things from Bristol but once we spent a bit of time driving through and around it, Michelle and I concluded that it is very similar to Brisbane. It has a beautiful inner city, some wonderful cosy and hilly streets and an exciting view of it as you head to west coast of England.
We drove down the coastline for a few miles after visiting Bristol and enjoyed the seaside trek through some wonderful English villages. It wasn’t long however until we arrived in Cheddar – yep the place where the cheese comes from.
At first we drove through the township of Cheddar and thought – what a hole – so we decided to check out the gorge. This is the beautiful part of Cheddar. It’s similar to Maleny back home. A narrow strip of teahouses, shops and tourist attractions. Michelle and I enjoyed a clotted cream tea and nice little walk through the gorge before getting back into the car for our trip home.
Another fantastic weekend. England offers so much – just needs to pick up on the sunshine :)
Had a funny conversation today

Extras

I just finished watching the 2nd episode of Ricky Gervais’ second TV show, Extras.
I found it quite enjoyable. Ricky plays a slightly less wankerish version of David Brent, thus highlighting the tone of the show. The Extras cast is considerably smaller than The Office with only Ricky and his hussy sidekick chick the only regulars. It’s left up to a guest celebrity each week to carry the show. It’s great watching the guest actors take the piss out of themselves.
I’m sure I’m hooked already and will be tuning in each Thursday night for gander.
Enough said!
