Amato Hot Chocolate

Amato - Hot Chocolate

Braving central London is not something I am terribly fond of but H.W.K has put up a few challenges which require me to venture in. So while I was in town yesterday I struggled my way through the tangle that is Oxford St and popped in to Amato in Soho for said famous hot chocolate.

When I first arrived in London I had several interviews around the Soho area but since then have never gone back. I don’t know why as it is a lovely area full of street/people watching cafes and decent pubs. Amato is situated on Old Compton St and as you enter the modest store front you are greeted with lengthy rows of Italian baked goods. Michelle and I quickly made our pastry decisions before being seated ready to order our hot chocolate.

I must say the hot chocolate doesn’t disapoint and for £2.80 you would hope it didn’t. It was so tasty, deliciously thick and worthy of the many teaspoon scoops it took to empty the cup. It along with my chocolate cheesecake both went down really fast. I definitely recommend London visitors drop by Soho for an Amato hot chocolate.

Weekend Wrap Up

After an intensive working week Friday managed to pass by and our weekend of fun began.

Friday night we had the UNO gang over to farewell our friend Lucy as she has accepted a dream job up in Cambridge and is moving there this weekend. We had a great night with many interesting conversations about music. A particular highlight was seeing Madonna’s new filmclip. Her song rocks.

Saturday, Michelle met Jaimee and they went wedding dress shopping. Being the groom I’m not allowed to know details but Michelle said she did find some dresses that she liked. While the girls were doing girly things I tasked myself to find flights back home and to try and arrange a potential honeymoon destination.

After an exhausting day we were glad to relax with friends at Pat’s house. As usual Pat made our tastebuds jump with glee by cooking the best tasting pizzas.

As the clocks rolled back one hour in NY and London on Sunday, Michelle and I embarked on a trip into central London. We had a hankering for some Chinese so where else would you go but Chinatown.

ChinaTown

After satisfying our cravings, we walked up Regent St to a travel agent that specializes in London-Australia airfares. We were successful, managing to book our flights back home for the wedding the next year.

Our next task was to buy me some much needed new clothes. Braving Oxford street for the first time, I managed to buy a new pair of jeans, two tshirts, and a pair of new shoes. I so desperately needed new shoes as my current pair wore right through last week.

To top off our successful day, Michelle and I walked down to Soho to review one of the He Who Knows Challenges. Make sure you come back for that exciting review later in the week.

Drinks in Mayfair

Last night we caught up with David to have some birthday drinks. We went to a bar called Babble and it was really awesome. Actually you could say the place was on fire, literally. Michelle put her handbag down on the table and went to the bathroom when she got back our friends Louise and Flavia told us how they had put the fire out on her bag. Needless to say that Michelles bag is totally ruined. Just an excuse to buy a new one :)

A great night all-round. It was great catching up with the Aussie contingent and sharing a few beers with Davo.

Ain’t Technology Marvellous

Ben and I have just finished watching a DVD that dear friends Cathy and Grant made of their gorgeous new baby girl Amelie’s first week. Being so far away, we really appreciated sharing in the experience and watching such amazing and intimate footage. It’s not the same as being there and meeting Amelie but it’s the next best thing. Couldn’t help but get teary-eyed at the miracle of it all, and our feelings of longing to be there with them. Thanks guys.

We really appreciate the photos and news updates we receive of all our newborn friends in Brisbane. Keep them coming! (the news and photos that is, not the babies!!!!)
