My wonderful friends KT and Scott went up to Toowoomba on the weekend to visit Hayley, Damien and my newborn nephew. I was excited about them heading up there because I knew they would come back with photos. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the pictures as I’ve been told by Hayley and Mum that he looks like a minature Damien. Well, the photos speak for themselves.

A Taste of Home

Lamington.jpg

Knowing how much I love and miss lamingtons, Ben knew he was going to earn some serious Brownie points when he discovered some at a local farmers markets during the week. Oh the joy! They cost more than $2 a pop – but were well worth it for a little taste of home. Though not quite up to school lamington drive standard, they were pretty authentic and very tasty. The only problem now will be stopping me from buying them every week!

West London Poker Tournament 2006

Last night a group of poker novices gathered in Chiswick for a night of drinking, eating and card playing.

It was good to get away from the girls, shipping them off somewhere for 1/2 price cocktails while the boys emptied their wallets and joked and bluffed their way through a few hours of Texas Hold em.

In the end it was John’s friend David who that took out first prize (£50) with Nathan coming in second (£20).

I had a great night sinking some beers and talking trash, all while eating my gut into the size of a hot air balloon.

Leeds Castle

Ben and Patrick

Laura organized for a big group of us to head down to Leeds Castle a few weekends ago. The astute may have noticed that I used the word ‘down’ to indicate the direction from London that Leed’s castle is in. I mention this as many hold a common belief that Leeds castle is in Leeds which is a few hours North West of London, while in fact it is about 90 minutes South East of London in Maidstone, Kent.

Anyways, it was great getting up super early on a Saturday morning to spend the day with friends walking around the most amazing castle I’ve seen to date. The castle grounds and bird wildlife they keep are amazing to see. One of the favourite birds I saw was the toucan. They have 4 of them and they are truly surreal – so colourful. I’ve only ever seen a toucan on a fruitloops box before :)

The castle itself isn’t that large but has a nice modern history that helps to grab your attention easier than other historical sites whose history is so old that you can’t fathom it.

A favourite part of the day was when our group of 13 split up into teams of two or three and we raced through the amazing garden maze they have. Unfortunately I was put on the losing team – never ask a woman for directions ;)

Leeds castle is an awesome day trip. It’s cheap, easy to get to by bus or train and only takes about 7 hours of your time.

Natural History Museum

Today we met friends John and Kirsty for breakfast in Kensington and a trip to the Natural History Museum. It was a normal grey and overcast London winter day, but lucky for us the rain held off while we waited in the long queue to get in. Very popular place! It wasn’t long before we were inside this impressive building. There’s some pretty cool exhibits here, such as the dinosaurs and the big mammals. I’d recommend a trip to the museum. The the glorious buliding is an exhibit in itself. And the best part: entry is FREE!
