We’re moving out

Wow! Have we been busy this last week? While I haven’t had time or the technology to put up any postings of late, I’ve managed to get this story up to tide you hungry blog readers over until we get the internet setup at our new place.

After spreading all our belongings about in 3 different places, we settled in for a week of camping fun at our friends Michael and Robyn’s. Here we enjoyed some super-duper cooking, Robyn’s bday, a movie and some good ol fashion chin-wagging.

Thursday, I headed out to the Muse concert at Wembly arena. OMG! They just get better each time I see them. They certainly rocked the 15,000 strong crowd and put on a completely different set including visuals to when I saw them earlier this year in New York.

After a big night out, it was off to work early in the morning so I could leave at 4pm ready for a rocking weekend in Champagne, France.

It was Brad’s 30th birthday weekend, and he invited 6 of his mates to France to celebrate in style.

While I will be putting up a detailed post later, I will talk about our trip briefly here.

Friday night eurostar’d over to Paris, and saw an 11pm Moulin Rouge show. I never expected a dance/music show to be so good. But it was just fantastic.

Then the next morning after some traditional French brekkie goodies we caught a train to Epernay, and stayed in a private BnB that owns and runs a Champagne house.

A fantastic weekend with fantastic friends.

Now, we spend this evening moving to our new place. Yay!

Weekend in review

Yo yo!

What a weekend! We managed to monopolize one of our friend’s time this weekend, convincing him to help us move all our junk to various places while we live in limbo for a week until our new place is ready for us to move in.

To thank him for his efforts we took him out for Tony Roma’s, a magnificent ribs and meat joint that rivals Australia’s own Lonestar chain.

To rest our full bellies we just had to go see the new movie, Borat. OMG! How funny is that movie? Definitely worth a look see.

Today we woke up at our friends, Michael and Robyn’s, house and enjoyed a great breakfast and catchup. They took off for a great sunny day trip out walking while Michelle and I finished off some packing/moving.

Tonight we sit here, using the wireless network I setup. There are now three of us on laptops surfing away while we watch X-factor. A weekly necessity.

Tomorrow Michelle and I have to figure out a whole new way to work as we are staying in Kingston and have to familiarize ourselves with new transport options.

Oh yeah, I finally got approval for my highly skilled migrant visa! What does this mean? It means that I have the option to stay in the UK for another 2 years. That said, I don’t think we’ll be here more than another year at most.

Time to move on

This Saturday we are moving house. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time in this one bedroom loft in Chiswick and are rather sad to be leaving our lovely little neighbourhood. But never fear, we’re only moving about 1km down the road to an even nicer 1 bedroom flat that comes with a sofa-bed for guests to stay.

Why are we moving if we’re just heading down the road I hear you say? Well let’s just say that we are sick to death of our landlady and all of her shenanigans. Below is a list of some of her most annoying things to date:-

  • Didn’t trust that we wouldn’t have guests house-sitting for us while we were in Australia getting married. She rang us multiple times letting us know that she was coming to inspect the empty place.
  • Rings us constantly about inane details.
  • Has the most patronizing, distrusting, whiny voice I’ve ever heard.
  • Wouldn’t put in an insurance claim for the replacement house locks even though her policy covered it. Thus costing us £250 on top of the other £1750 worth of gear I had stolen.
  • Has an inventory that lists every minute detail of the flat as to ensure we haven’t stolen or damaged anything during our tenancy. Not too bad I hear you say! Well, she has listed the kitchen sink, light bulbs, in-built bathroom exhaust fans and door hooks. Who is going to a) steal these things and b) be able to damage them?

And for the privilege of living in her home, we had to pay over £400 pounds in reference checks and agents fees.

I just wish there was a service for tenants to do reference checks on the landlords. Had we not been in a bind at the time, we never would signed up with this loon.

Because she calls so often, I just let it go to voicemail. It’s too excruciating having to talk to her let alone just listen.

You can hear her latest message to us (full of lies – as always) below. I had to add a backing track to it, so that you didn’t end up tearing your ears off from her annoying voice, or falling asleep as she rambles on.

Picking up a bad habit

CiggiesLast weekend as I was sifting through our cupboards and while packing our goods into boxes ready for our impeding move I came across this packet of cigarettes.

Completely puzzled I jumped to the only logical conclusion, and walked into the lounge room to ask Michelle who she was having an affair with :/

I didn’t even think of the possibility that she’d taken up this bad habit :)

After some mutterings about divorcing me, Michelle and I finally concluded that we do not have the foggiest idea of how these ciggies came to be in the closet.

You’ll be blazed
