I indulged in a little bit of immaturity today on the tube ride home from work. Boarding the packed train, I walked past a lady sitting down who had a few bags and her overcoat hanging on the ground around her feet. Stepping on something, I turned around ready to apologize but before getting a word out, I heard a delayed, over-emphasized, “ouch” and I thought here we go… this lady is an a.s.s.
I then had the privilege of listening to this woman harp on about how rude I was for stepping on her foot and that I was the lowest form of human being she’d ever come across. Sure it’s annoying and even painful to have your foot stepped on, but getting roughed up on the tube is all part of the fun of commuting. Most people, grimace and bear it.
Eventually, after elbowing me for the next 4 stops, she decided to get off. Here’s where it gets funny. Instead of taking two steps to the left to exit the train, she decided it was better to push past 12 people and head in the other direction, all so she could return the favour and step on my foot.
As she took great delight in stepping on my foot, she turned around and said “Manners are free you know?”. Without skipping a beat, I replied “so are showers”, arousing a few smiles from the other tube passengers.
And thus ends my little bit of immature fun.
