I must say we’ve had a bad run of weather this last week. After tremendous skiing in Andorra, Michelle and I arrived in Brizvegas to find that Brissie was experiencing its worst ever summer snow season since temperature results started being recorded over 150 years ago.
I don’t know what to say really, but I am very disappointed that my fellow brisbanites have dropped the ball while we’ve been away. I mean, 2 years ago, I was carving up kilometers of fresh powder down Kelvin Grove road and now, nada.
I don’t want to hear excuses about the drought, or how the temperatures aren’t really conducive to snow fall. If you’re honest with yourself you know it’s because you’re all bloody ruining the environment, with your fancy cars, massive flat screen televisions, and multi-room household air-conditioning units.
Come on Brisbane! It’s time to pick up our socks.
Here’s some tips on how to get our wonderful city back to its previous winter wonderland goodness.
- Buy a low energy light bulb or two (only if you can get a buy one get one free deal)
- Save on water usage. Remember, “if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown then flush it down”
- Another trick to save on water usage, don’t brush your teeth and leave those over priced bottles of water on the shelf – drink Coke instead.
- Use a little positive thinking – Put it out there. Start wearing your polar fleece and ski boots when heading out of the house. Nothing says I’m an optimist like a ski patriot wearing their comfy ski boots on a night out on the town.
- Leave your fridge door open – at all times. This will help cool the city streets. Also, turn the oven on to cold when not cooking dinner.
If you all follow these simple suggestions, we’ll be throwing snow balls, and laughing away our summer sunshine blues in no time.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!
I think you’ve been spoiled by all the beautiful warm, sunny days in London.
The other thing I’m sure you’ve noticed is how we are still being plagued by colour. Hopefully in the next couple of years we will follw the lead of the super cities of London and New York and ditch colour in place of a more flattering grey.
Honestly though, there are much better ways to save power than energy efficient bulbs. When the old ones blow, just don’t replace them. This also saves time and money on ironing. By the time you get into enough light to tell that you should have ironed your clothes, you are already in your car, which means that they are getting crinkled all ready. No point after that really!
Damn, I really miss that Kelvin Grove road skiing…especially the “down” bit :)
The Brisbane colour plague is a problem I must admit, and I know London definitely has one up on you there – it’s grey all the way, but New York suffers a colour problem too. It’s got this funny blue sky thing happening all year around.
Although after the snow has been sitting on the ground for a few days and is covered in mud from the road, NY starts to look a bit grey too… we do what we can to keep up with you Londoners :-)
There’s so much colour I’m forced to wear my sunglasses almost all the time. It’s most inconvenient when I forget to wear them and it so happens that there is a combination of bright sunshine and gorgeous hues.
Gorgeous hues… how I loathe them!
Mmmm…. colour. How I miss it :-) Can’t wait til summer now though!
