Weekend Wrap Up

Last week’s social and work schedules slightly wrecked me.

While it’s great to have so many opportunities to socialize, when those opportunities all pile up night after night, you eventually start to run down.

We welcomed our great mates Gerrod and Kristy on Monday who have come to London to live, then enjoyed a birthday and engagement party mid-week and finished off with a big night out playing pool on Friday.

Let’s just say a big sleep in on Saturday was well and truly appreciated and then the fry up we scoffed down after waking up was even better.

After lazing around watching Britain’s Got Talent and the Pirate Master Saturday afternoon, G&K challenged us to a game of Settlers, so we finally gave that a whirl on Sat. night and found it to be a real cool game once you get your head around all the many rules.

To top the weekend off, we borrowed some bikes off our mates and headed for a ride through Richmond Park. It was super cool being able to ride the streets of London and then circle around the park enjoying all the wildlife. We saw quite a few birds, of both the flying and human variety, a couple of squirrels but it is always Santa’s reindeer that impress me the most.

What’s doing your head in?

An article this week in the free London paper about a website setup to help England’s youth has got me thinking.

I sometimes feel like we live in a world where if you are struggling with an unmentionable illness like depression, anxiety, or a run-away mind then there must be something wrong with you and you’re best off keeping it to yourself.

God forbid, that you not always be happy and at the top of your game at all times!

It’s funny in a sad way how we all experience self-doubt and believe that all our friends are so on top of it and wish we could be like them, and at the same time not realize that they too are thinking that about themselves and their friends.

Opening up about your own problems might just be the best way to help someone else with theirs.

Dammit, another one of my future inventions foiled!

I’ve always thought I was going to make a name for myself by inventing two things to revolutionalize the way we do things in the modern world.

Sadly, one of my future inventions has been ripped off by some smart-ass grads from MIT. Yep, you guessed it, I was going to invent safe wireless electricity. I’ve always wanted to truly live in a wireless world and do away with the rats nest of cables that inevitably end up lying around different parts of our workspaces.

Luckily, I’m not a one idea man and have a fall back plan to make me a millionaire. I don’t mind telling you my invention idea because I know that I am the only one that can make this thing happen. In 6 months to 100 years time, I will be known as “Mr. Teleportation Priebe”. I will bring the current 19th/20th century transportation systems to the ground.

No longer will it take 1 hour to fly to Paris, drive to work, pass through a McDonalds drive thru. You just have to think where you want to be and that’s where you’ll be – instantaneously.

Just think of all the benefits. The environment damage caused by the use of fossil fuels by shipping, airlines and mass commuter transit systems will be eliminated. US Republicans and Australian Liberal Party supporters will have there arms up in rage trying to figure out how to police their countries borders. You never have to endure another painful hour long journey home on a late night train without a toilet after drinking way too much. The list goes on.

Are there any other benefits you can think of?
