Michelle bought me a new toy for my upcoming birthday. It’s an Apple TV.
Now a common misconception with this device is that it’s a TV. But rather than being a TV its better described as a fancy DVD player – without the DVD disc tray – that’s connected to the internet and lets you control your photos, music collection, movies and TV shows directly through your TV.
I love coming home, flipping on my latest iTunes playlist and watching a photo slideshow of my favourite photos as I potter about doing other stuff around the house. Another feature I do think is superb is the ability to watch YouTube videos straight through the TV. I can spend hours just surfing YouTube.
Anyways, on the weekend I watched a few movies through my apple TV and I’d thought I give a quick summary and review:
Sicko
Latest “documentary” from Michael Moore about the failings of US health care system. It compares the “must buy insurance to be covered” system of the States to the “free health care for all” systems of Canada, Britain and France. It’s typical Michael Moore showing a blatant disregard for bias but it’s hard to argue against the human rights need for “basic free care” for everyone.

A “what if” zombie thriller based on the premise that an extremely infectious disease passes from test animals to humans turning the entire population of the UK into raging zombies. Those that manage to avoid the outbreak struggle to survive while the infected zombies die out through starvation. Surprisingly good entertainment. The way they managed to shoot usually heavily populated areas of London as desolate and completely void of people baffles me.

Picks off 28 weeks after the initial outbreak. The zombies have died out. Survivors have been gathered up into quarantine and the UK is being repopulated all under the control of a US led NATO force. Through a series of plausible events, the virus comes back and the struggle for survival begins again.

The Simpsons Movie
What’s to say? It’s a 90 minute Simpson’s episode exhibiting the superb comic quality reminiscent of The Simpsons heyday during seasons 4-6. Home + Pig is extremely funny.

Knocked Up
Ugly stoner dude knocks up semi-successful beautiful woman. Lots of laughs and a few surprising/disturbing images of a vagina during the birth.

Evan Almighty
If you liked Bruce Almighty you’ll hate this one. Absolutely zero laughs.
