Last Tuesday I did something truly terrifying. It was scarier than anything I’ve ever done before and I’ve done some scary stuff.
It was more scary than when I went skydiving at 19 or the first time I got in a car with Louisa after she got her licence to speed or when I visited Chiswick nightclub.
That’s right – truly terrifying.
I jumped off the world’s highest bungee. The Bloukrans Bungee is 216m high and is situated just ouside of Plettenberg Bay.
The prospect of being able to boast of jumping the highest bungee appealed to me but the first 5-10 seconds of freefalling – to what felt like certain death – had me re-thinking my position.
It was mad! Mad fun that is.
Even though I must have sworn 100 times on the way down, the feeling of absolute helplessness and freedom from the sure footing the ground provides is the absolute adrenalin rush. I was on a big buzz for hours afterwards.
While the experience had its ups and downs, I pulled up ok in the end.
If you’re one for adventure or one for testing your limits than I recommend taking the plunge.

I totally agree with you that this bungee jump was scarier than a sky dive (though scariest bit was hopping to the edge of the platform with legs bound!) Beautiful jump site! Nice action pics!
