Excitement in Aspley

Filed under: At home in Australia

We were enjoying some wonderful Z’s last night when at 3:15am we heard the loudest explosion we’ve ever heard. It woke both of us up and all the dogs in the surrounding neighbourhood.

We got out of bed, looked out all our windows but couldn’t see anything. We then lay in bed wondering amongst ourselves what it was that we heard. It was a bang that you usually would only hear in a cinema with 100 million point 1 surround sound. Huuuuuugggggeeeeee!

It took 7 minutes for the sirens to come and we figured it was all under control. Off back to sleep.

We woke in the morning to find that Aspley was not to be outdone by the impressive crime statistics of big cities like NY, London and Paris. Would be bank robbers managed to blow up the entire Bank of Queensland shop front causing some pretty serious damage. They didn’t get away with any cash though. Suckers!

You can read more about it here.

I work next to Bunnings

I work next to Bunnings. I’m a new home owner with the need to use a lot of tools to fix things around the house. A quick lunchtime trip over to Bunnings to purchase a cordless drill seems like a logical thing to do.

Upon returning back to the office do I:

a) Take it out of its case, fire it up and drill some test holes?
b) Quietly put it under my desk until it’s ready to go home?
c) Perform (a) then send a company wide email out telling everyone about this great purchase and where they can get one from?

If only I had my old mate Kernie from IDT to help me with this rather complex decision.

It was a dark knight but a glorious weekend

We enjoyed a quiet meal on Friday night at the lunar lounge with our mates Ian and Mel and two of their friends before taking off to see The Dark Knight – the latest Batman film. Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar for his performance as The Joker. He is so good that I didn’t even realize it was him when I first saw a preview. The sound in the film is absolutely awesome too. I’ve never heard anything like it. A brilliant must see film, even for those not into these kinds of movies.

Yesterday, I was back into the yard going hard clearing even more guff out after having a professional tree loppers around this week who axed some of the bigger trees we’ve been wanting to get rid of.

Then we were off for an adventure to the south side of the river to visit our great mates, Mikey, Robyn and Lucy. Michael cooked up a storm. The most flavoursome meal we’ve eaten in a while. He truly out did himself.

As usual, baby Lucy was a real treat. She’s just so lovely, which mustn’t be too hard for her given how great her parents are.

Today I spent doing odd chores and some time working on an iPhone application, while Chelle did the shopping and saw Mumma Mia with her friend Ang.

To break up this horrible day we thought we should make the most of the beautiful warm weather. We took a midday break and headed down to Sandgate to enjoy the sun and water. It’s activites like this that make you realize how great Brizzie is and how great life is in general.

Everytime we get a little down about missing London, it doesn’t take too long to realize how many opportunities we have here to keep us amused.

How was everyone else’s weekend?

Gerrod kindly pointed out that we have been very scarce with stories showing any photos of us since we left the UK.

To satisfy the insatiable hunger for pictures of the original a-list couple I present you with the following photo.
