Hayley and Damien marry

Filed under: At home in Australia

15 years ago I used to enjoy having my baby sister scratch my scalp to remove the mountains of dry skin that accumulated daily. I then rewarded her for performing this unpleasant job by accidentally lighting her beautiful long blond hair on fire. Despite these events, together we partnered up to pick on my younger brother David – a common enemy because we thought he was favoured by our mother – aren’t kids mean? As youngsters Hayley and ruled over the Priebe house. A better younger sister I could never have.

Last weekend my baby sister “growed” up and got married. It was a beautiful ceremony, with Hayley and Damien’s son, Jet, getting in the action and holding hands with the two as they said their vows. A beautiful moment.

Hayley looked absolutely gorgeous and the ceremony and reception went off without a hitch. A truly wonderful event.

Michelle and I had so much fun and it was good to have the whole family together again. I love hanging with all my bros, sistas, in-laws and de-facto in-laws. The new club in Toowoomba is surprisingly cool, and even though we’re getting old we partied hard. Well some of us did.

Hayley and Damian are honeymooning in Thailand at the moment and from all the facebook status updates it appears as if they are having a great time.

Congratulations Hayley and Damien. May you enjoy a happy and wonderful life together.

Five of the best feelings in the world

Filed under: At home in Australia

Time for another meme, this time it’s describing 5 of your best feelings.

Rules for this meme:

  • Each player must post these rules to begin the meme.
  • Each player lists 5 of their best feeling experiences; with an effort not to duplicate someone elses experiences.
  • People who get tagged must blog about their five things and post these rules.
  • At the end of your blog, you need to choose five people to get tagged and list their names.
  • Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Here goes:

  • After a few drinks and an unusually long build up, nothing beats the relief felt from the release of gushing golden stream into a porcelain bowl.
  • After a few days on a bad diet, the backup can become unpleasant but when it finally all comes together and you evacuate the backlog, you feel a better person.
  • This next feeling is a word that looks similar to the word – organism – and rhymes with spasm.
  • Laughter – it’s the orgasm of happiness.
  • And anyone who knows me, knows that I’d be a different man if I couldn’t enjoy a fart.

I’m sorry that most of my ‘best feelings in the world’ revolved around body artifacts but someone had to do it. Hopefully my five tags can do a more high brow approach.

Ok time to tag 5 old mates:

  • Bum of the Year – Alex
  • Still too many email addresses – Louisa
  • Are feelings different in Sydney – Meegan
  • Does Puu like to Poo too – Matt
  • Saffa’s have feelings too – Brad

Picasso, Cars and Sunburn

Filed under: At home in Australia

Brisbane’s goma is hosting a Picasso exhibit so Michelle thought it would be a good idea to go along and support it. It was what you’d expect for an art exhibition. I enjoyed a couple of paintings but overall it’s not my scene. There’s only so many drawings of fat ladies and their fuzzy bits I can view before I need to sit down :/

The next day I took a mate of mine, Jake, out to the Marooka Mile to go car shopping. We picked our first car yard and immediately we knew we were in for a rough ride. The car sales men all had full body tattoos, 40cm beards, 2 meter long pony tails, cigarettes dangling out their mouths and $5 lattes in their hand.

Greeted with a rough “Howz it goin? Which car will you be takin ome today lads?” we politely motored on to the next yard, where we were greeted by a salesman who must have been 90 years old. He had some serious shakes too and I wasn’t sure he was going to be able stand upright for long. The whole mile is littered with your typical used car salesmen – and no I’m not being sexist, there weren’t any saleswomen to be found.

We made our way through about 15 car yards I reckon and didn’t really find a car that fit into Jake’s price range or requirements. I guess he’ll have to keep looking.

Yesterday, I thought I needed to do some training to ready myself for the Brisbane to Gold Coast ride I’m doing in 4 weeks. I jumped on my bike and decided to ride 50klms – half the 100klms I need to be ready for.

2 and 1/2 hours later I was back home – and ready for hospital. I enjoyed the ride out to Scarborough – it’s always nice riding along the coastline seeing the ocean – but my body wasn’t ready for such a big one just yet. To top it off, I forgot to put sunscreen on and I am just roasted at the moment.

Anywho, that was my weekend.

Sticks and stones may protect my bones…

Magpie season is in full swing here in the warm airs of Brisbane. So yesterday when I decided to walk to work to pick up my mountain bike I did a little magpie protection research before heading out.

I wasn’t quite up for putting an ice cream bucket on my head and painting eyes on the back but I did feel quite comfortable putting on an extra pair of sunnies that sat on the back of my head. I know … that’s crazzzzy!

Even more crazy was the fact that I picked up a huge long stick and carried it around above my head like a tour group organizer in Paris. The theory here is that the extra height the stick adds forces the magpie to pull up earlier from its attack. So you still get the fright of your life but they shouldn’t be able to mame you.

I obviously looked like a freak walking down Maundrell Terrace. I attracted quite a few gazes that lasted about 2 seconds too long. But my outfit must be common and well-known as a few cars went past with adolescent boys screaming out like magpies trying – and succeeding – to scare the begeebus out of me.

I managed to make it all the way down Maundrell Terrace to Stafford Road incident free and was glad to have passed by two other walkers who were suited up in protective apparatus.

Dumping the stick, the hat and the 2nd pair of sunnies, I was going out commando style for the ride home. You do have the benefit of a helmet when riding a bike but the pesky birds always seem to clip your ears still. Thankfully, the ride home – via a different route – was incident free too.

Only 6 more glorious weeks of Magpie attacks to endure. Yay me!
