This year has seen the purchase of way too many gadgets. Between leaving the UK, travelling for two months and then settling back in to Brisbane in our own home for the first time, we were presented with too many requirements for purchasing necessary gadgets.
I’m going to short-list this year to avoid boring you more than usual.
iPhone 2G – I started the year off by picking up a hacked US-only version of the iphone on New Years Eve. Instantly I was hooked on this beautiful device. Phone, Music Player, Video Player, Internet and Gaming Device all in one gadget that fits so easily into your pocket. How could you do any better?
Sony HDR-SR12 – True HD – Camcorder – As we said goodbye to London we embarked on a 2 month adventure around the world visiting South Africa, Vietnam and China. I thought it was about time I upgraded my video taking solution to a more pro-consumer level and bought this little beauty while in Shanghai. It’s a joy to use and takes beautiful video. The only problem with camcorders is that you still have to find the time to edit the footage :(
40″ Sony LCD – When we landed in Aus. I was going to need something to fill in my unemployed daytimes and since there was a promotion on to receive a free Sony PS3 – I had to buy. The picture is crystal, the menus are easy to navigate and it is one sexy looking unit.
Sony PS3 – Gerrod and John had one. Enuf said.
iPhone 3G – I mentioned before that you probably couldn’t do any better than an iphone 2g. Well it turns out you can. The 3g release of the iphone allowed me to purchase a legitimate phone that added to the already awesome iphone 2g feature set by giving me fast 3g internet everywhere and a gps receiver.
Tivo – Not wanting to shell out $100 p/m for Foxtel IQ I went the tight-ass route and conned Michelle into getting me a Tivo for my 30th birthday present. It’s awesome. I never miss any television shows and I love pausing live tv.
4 Burner BBQ – What house is complete without a bbq? Another birthday gift, this one from my family. I can’t wait to have you over to cook you a steak.
Piaggio Fly 150cc Scooter – When I changed jobs in October, I decided that I didn’t like being dependent on public transport or Michelle to get to and from work. After having dinner with Jason one night, I was convinced that a cheap, easy and fun solution was to get a scooter. I love it and it only costs me $8 per fortnight for petrol.
As it is every year, it is very hard to narrow down to the one gadget I enjoy most.
My top 3 would be the iphone 3g, Tivo and TV.
Narrowing down further I announce the iphone 3g as my standout gadget of the year. Apple have excelled themselves and set the benchmark for all other phone manufacturers to reach.
What’s your favourite gadget of 2008?
Sorry to get political on you, but Australia is about to go down as world’s village idiot. Somehow, our censorship czar has managed to get traction on censoring/filtering content on the internet.
I for one, don’t want Australia to hold hands with China and restrict the basic freedoms of its citizens.
I hope you too are against this horrible series of actions.
Please find any possible way to contact the relevant ministers to help try and stop this mess.
You can find information on how and who to contact at – http://www.hinet.net.au/censor/
All it takes is 5 minutes of your time.
There seems to be a wave of home sickness passing through some of our friends over in the UK of late.
We’re hoping this picture taken today out at Currumbin Creek tips them over the edge so that they come home and join us in the land down under :)

December is the month to party. It’s a rare night that we have in lounging around watching TV at the moment.
Xmas parties come in all flavours. There’s the company xmas party, followed by a division xmas party, which is then followed by a team xmas party and if you’re lucky like me you have two team xmas parties. And that’s just my lot! I’ve also been attending some of Michelle’s xmas parties.
Then you have the xmas parties close to your heart – those of your friends and families.
I’m not complaining by any means. It’s great to have such an active social calendar. I will be glad to take a breather when Jan 2nd rolls around though :)
