Doings

I find it difficult to write about mundane stuff in interesting way. Maybe because it is mundane?
So instead of trying to put lipstick on this pig, you’ll get it short and raw.

Michelle and I went to Lily Allen’s BDO sideshow at the Riverstage with support acts – Dizzy Rascall and Calvin Harris. I’m a huge fan of Lily Allen – if asked the question which famous person dead or alive I could have dinner with – I would answer Lily. She just seems so honest and raw. It hits home with me.

The concert was great although I thought her live singing was a bit rough. At least she wasn’t lip syncing like Britney.

After the usual the end-of-year meltdown — letting myself go with regard to food and drink — the following January brings a renewed vigour to be more healthy. I’ve managed ok so far eating wise and have promised myself that I would get out and about on the bike a bit more to help with the fitness. Within one week of riding the peddly I managed to get 4 – count them – 1, 2, 3, 4 – punctures. A new record. At least now I’m an expert at changing tubes.

The Xmas-New Years obsession with Band Hero has been put on the back burner a little with the pressures of real life creeping back in (damn that work thing we have to do) but every now and then the ol’ game gets fired up and the sticks get pulled out. We had a mini band hero competition at the Dahl’s a few Friday’s ago and I’m thinking that as soon as I finish writing this blog entry up I’m going to hook into some tunes on the ol plastic axe.

Another of my goals for this year was to have a family/friends over to ours for dinner at least once a month. January’s guests were the Donnachies. We met this SA couple through our friend Nathan in the UK and have enjoyed their company since they came to Australia to live just over a year ago. Stuart and Celeste have also just had a baby boy, Thor, who we love to see and play with.

It’s not all fun and sunshine though, my Mum has been having problems with termites at her house and the solution to getting rid of them and making sure they never come back is dig a trench around the perimeter of the house and fill it with rocks. 8 cubic meters of rocks. Thankfully Mum organized a backyard blitz with six people so we managed to get rock moving done in one day. Such hard work though.

After spending my weekend doing yard work at Mum’s it was a relief to have another day of on the following Tuesday for Australia Day. My mates Ian and Mel hosted a BBQ pool party at theirs where we ate, swam, and listened to the JJJ Hottest 100.

More has happened since but I’ll save that for a later post.
