Weekend Wrap Up

Friday night Michelle and I were lucky enough to be taken out to the awesome Anise restaurant in the valley. We enjoyed a six course degustation menu with every course outdoing the previous.

The next morning we awoke far too early for a Saturday but it was a blessing in disguise – I finally got some decent time to play with my new toy. I managed to get down to the Optus store and picked up a 3G pre-paid sim card for the iPad. It only took an hour before the sim card was activated and I was surfing the interwebs – wifi free.

We then jumped in the car to get some coffee from Maccas before heading off to Ipswich to catchup with family. The car wouldn’t start after we picked up the coffee. The car is only two years old so we didn’t think it could be the battery but the RACQ guy told us that it was. Upon reviewing the owners manual we found that our battery warranty was for two years and our car was two years and six days old. So only a $140 later we were back on the road and on our way to the “swich”. It was awesome catching up my sisters, mum, nephews, cousins and aunty.

In the evening we had some old friends – Annette and Glen – over to ours for dinner. Michelle cooked up the tastiest lamb chops I have ever eaten. It’s always great to hang with Netty and Glen as they are always so joyful and cheerful.

We had the Dahls over for a bacon/banana/ice-cream pancake feast on Sunday for brekky before I tucked into work for a couple of hours.

I plan to spend the rest of today reading, watching videos and playing games on my iPad.

Yay for weekends.

My first blog entry from the iPad

Initial impressions are good. So far everything works out the box just great. Photos, videos, music and games just look and play amazing.

Running apps made for the iPhone work well enough but they look pretty ugly when double sized to fill the bigger screen. IPad versions of the apps are way better (when available).

I’m using the wordpress blogging app to write this article. It is simple but functional. It is taking me some time to get used to touchscreen keyboard but I do like how I can use multiple fingers rather than the two thumb approach I take with the iPhone.

I will have more to say when I have had some decent time to play with it.

A very exciting week ahead

It may come as a surprise for some of you but it’s time I came out of the closet and let everyone know that I am – “a fanboi“.

When I come across a movie franchise, tv show, band or company that I connect with there’s no doubt that I’ll start living and breathing everything about it. Those who’ve known me a while will know that I am a big fan of The Terminator movie franchise (1, 2 and 4) and a massive fan of Pearl Jam. In my youth you would here me talk about these two close friends an awful lot.

Well this week sees two of my later-in-life obsessions delivering the one-two punch.

Punch one – The Lost TV show series finale concludes tonight in the US. I’ve been hooked on this show since I watched the pilot episode back in the 2004 – never missing an airing and patiently waiting until for the day when all the questions would be answered. So, tomorrow night I will be tucked under my bed covers watching the two and half hour finale, anticipating the show of a life time. Let’s hope I’m not disappointed.

Now for punch number two – I shall be receiving my iPad 3G+Wifi on Friday. Delivered to me at work so as I’m sure not to miss being able to sign for it. As Michelle will attest, I have been talking non-stop about this device for well over six months. While most cannot see it as anything more than a big iPhone, I see that it will be the beginning of something new and exciting. It took people a while to understand the iPhone and I reckon the iPad will be the same but once they’re out and about you’ll see more and more people getting some kind of tablet computer.

If only I didn’t have to go to work this week…

Relaxing up the coast

We are very fortunate being able to spend time up at Golden Beach on the Sunshine Coast with our friends Lou, Steve and Oli.

We drove up after work on Friday and have spent two glorious days and nights doing nothing but chilling, all while enjoying wonderful views of the beach.

On Saturday we found a cafe – Sunny’s @ Moffat – that served such great food that we went back again on Sunday. The macadamia waffles are to die for.

To ensure we didn’t spend the entire weekend indoors, we hired a “speed boat” for two hours and explored the waterways across from Golden Beach to Bribie Island.

After a very stressful week at work heading away with friends was the best medicine.
