$30 very well spent

Filed under: At home in Australia

Like most kids these days, Ted has an obscene number of toys. Given this, we’re usually pretty picky when it comes to buying him things ourselves, usually leaving it to family gifts and hand-me-downs. But we had a feeling that this trike would be a hit.

He rides it everywhere. To his highchair for meals, to the car, into the bathroom for baths and teeth cleaning, he sits on it to watch telly and play with toys and even rides it to bed. When he hears the garage door open, he goes and gets on his trike so he can ride it to meet dad at the door.

Riding down the hill at nana and pa’s is the best. fun. ever.

$30 very well spent.

The best weekend ever

Filed under: At home in Australia

It seems like most Sunday evenings, Ben and I ask Ted “Have you had the best weekend ever?”, because we’ve usually packed in lots of his favourite things – playgrounds, water, trains, time with adoring family, playing with buddies, general exploring and boy stuff.

Well Easter probably has actually been “the best weekend ever”. There has been –

  • lots of time with Ma Ma (Ben’s Mum)
  • a morning at the beach with Nanna and Pa (My Parents)
  • an easter egg hunt and fun with the cousies (Jet and Chase)
  • a day with the adoring fans on mummy’s side of the family
  • a first taste of chocolate
  • a trip to Alma Park zoo with Oscar and his parents (Gerrod and Kristy)

Four-day weekends are the greatest.

South Bank & Fun Run

Filed under: At home in Australia

Although we wake up at 6am weekdays, we found that waking up at 5:45am on Sunday was a crappy whole different experience. Way too early for a weekend.

That said, once we we’re up and about and the boy was dressed we were raring to go as today would be Ted’s first ride on an electric train.

We jumped on the ‘toot toot’ at Enogerra station. We met Michelle and Ethan Homes and The Homes’ friends Megan and Hamish on the train and the boys had a great trip into South Bank.

The occasion the – International Women’s Day – fun run.

While the others breezed their way through the 5km run, I punished myself by eating an eggs beny at Pooker bakery.

The walk was over quite quickly and afterwards we took the boys to the South Bank water park for being such angels.

They … loved … it. Such a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning.

A charmed life

It’s such a nice feeling to know that we have wonderful friends and family. Without our amigos our weekends might be just be boring affairs.

Jaimee’s time in Brisbane draws to an end this evening so Michelle has been locking in as much face time as we can get with her and Damian.

We enjoyed a lazy chat on the sofa Friday night before introducing Jaimee to “The Inbetweeners” tv series. Many, many laughs to be had there.

Saturday we pushed our way through the streaming rain up to Toowoomba to celebrate our nephew Jet’s sixth birthday. Ted must have forgotten about every other day he has experienced in his short life so far, as having a midday sleep wasn’t on the cards. Needless to say, Michelle and I grew weary during the four hours of travel time to and from the T-Bar.

Once back in Brizzy, Threadbare seemed to perk up after we gave him dinner and a bath. We then ventured over to the Dahl’s for a lovely evening and a nice meal.

Sunday, Michelle and I enjoyed endured a back massage from chi link Chermside. My guy said I was so tight and that I had a coat??? and needed to have the cupping treatment.

Word to the wise. I now look like a stegosaurus who has had his horny things removed.

In the afternoon, we ventured down to Shorncliffe for a final farewell picnic for Jaimee and Damian. It’s amazing how quickly three weeks can pass by.

Julian and Shelley

Filed under: At home in Australia

It’d be nice if I could find a way to write up an article about visiting Jules and Shelley that was significantly different to the gerrod.com write up… but I can’t.

I just want to add that it was really great to catch-up with two of the funniest people I know.

Ted had a great time wandering the yard and working the crowd. He was walking up to everyone with an empty plate fluttering his eyelids and asking for more. He didn’t have much success from the adults and even less success from the family dog – Ruffy – who took some of Ted’s sandwich when he offered it to him. How rude!
